Town centre restaurant closed after fan malfunction

A TOWN centre restaurant was forced to close on Saturday, leaving 80 pre-booked customers with nowhere to eat.

Mussi’s, in Museum Street, Colchester, had to cancel all bookings when the extractor fans failed in the kitchen.

That meant the gas safety interlocking system failed and shut the ovens down.

Jane Mussi, a spokeswoman for the family-run restaurant, said: “We can only apologise again to the 80 people who we had to let down on Saturday night.

“We thought we might be able to fix it, but unfortunately we were left with no choice.”

The malfunction happened at about 5.30pm on Saturday.

Staff then called every customer who was booked in for an evening meal to break the news.

During winter, the restaurant is not open on Sundays, so no bookings were affected.

No pre-bookings were taken for Monday.

The restaurant re-opened yesterday.

Mussi’s will be open as usual for customers already booked in for Mother’s Day, on Sunday.

Left with "nowhere to eat"? Every restaurant in Colchester was fully booked, was it?

Nightmare for any restaurant, but it sounds like they handled it the best they could. And yes, I agree that they do serve excellent food, this is one of the best restaurants in town, yet not overwhelmingly expensive.

Wine is what they make their profit on, so no chance of free wine. Maybe a discount but as others have said, this is just one of those things that happen, and most customers will have accepted it as just a bit of bad luck. There are over 300 restaurants in Colchester so nobody went hungry.
Seems a pity Mussi's couldn't just throw the kitchen window open, and then they wouldn't have needed the extractor fan and the rest. They need a plan B for when the sophisticated technology fails. It's only a restaurant, after all.

Mussi's is only no. 40 on the Trip Advisor ranking of restaurants in Colchester. Having eaten at Mussi's, and in several of the ones ranked higher, I'd say no. 40 is about right. So there are plenty of good alternatives.

Dear Sir,
That is not very nice nor was your other post, Fulvio and his father Marco were one of my fathers best mates Len Vencato.
My dad and Marco virtually came to England at the same time.
The KingsFord Park was one of the best venues in the area owned and run by The Mussi family. The food at Mussi's is Italian and is fresh. It is not freeze dried pre prepared cooking and it is definately not like the majors.
I disagree with your sentiments and posts.
Sincerely
Jon (Giovanni) Venca'to esq.

I went there once - I found it over rated, over priced and the staff quite rude and abrupt. Seems that the fans breaking was probably a blessing in disguise. Read the Trip Advisor reviews - they speak for theirselves.
