  • "Colchester Council reports now describe the "cultural quarter" as "St Botolphs quarter". And the Curzon cinema proposal was for the St James/Roman House block. So that suggests the latest fantasy development is in the area of the old bus station. So who would have the money to gamble for an expensive town centre redevelopment next to the local sodom and Gomorrah called Queen Street.

A NEW hotel is back on the cards for Colchester’s St Botolph’s Quarter under new plans which will create 100 jobs.

Last year, Colchester Council’s regeneration hopes were shattered when Travelodge pulled out of long-awaited plans to knock down St James House and Roman House and build a three-star hotel in their place.

Now, months after a cinema operator unveiled proposals to move into Roman House, an 85-bed hotel is once again proposed alongside restaurants, cafes, apartments and townhouses.

Nick Barlow, councillor responsible for regeneration, said: “I’m excited about the potential new development of the St Botolph’s site."
