Parking charges to be introduced at Colchester park

Gazette: Parking charges to be introduced at Colchester park Parking charges to be introduced at Colchester park

PARKING charges are set to be introduced at a Colchester park despite residents’ concerns.

Residents had hoped to lobby Colchester Council not to implement the fees at Gosbecks Archaeological Park, off Maldon Road.

They said people who use the green space to either go for walks or walk their dogs would start to park for free in nearby residential streets rather than pay for parking.

But Pauline Hazell, Conservative borough councillor for Shrub End, has now admitted defeat after a council spokeswoman confirmed walkers would have to pay a “modest cost” to park there from April 1. No exact cost has been given.

Mrs Hazell said: “It sounds like they have made up their mind, which is frustrating for the residents.”

Same old rubbish as they talked about when the council charged for High Woods country park car park. What happened? Nothing. The same number of people still park there and the local streets are not jammed up with traffic. Frankly if people can be bothered to drive there and walk their dog they can afford 50p or so to park. How about the alternative - no car park at all? Those who use it should pay for it. And councillors should know better than pander to these people. There is no free parking at any of the County's country parks, I am told.

It`s been implemented to pay for the person in the high visibility jacket to spend 24/7 picking up all the dog s**t Because the only reason these people go there is to empty their dogs. I mean......... they don't want it their gardens, do they ? Messy and smelly stuff, let someone else pick it up.

There's the visitor centre and replica temple... oh hang on.... that never materialised.

What will be the cost of installing the ticket machine, unless solar powered quite a bit of work involved to lay power on and how long will it take to recover the outlay?

Probably!

If I had a dog and walked it there I wouldn't be paying. You can barely wipe your **** for free these days.

Yeah - charge the dog walkers £5 an hour and let everyone else park there free of charge. I've had enough of having to look at my feet or else step in their pets' revolting muck.

Two questions for debate.

Does the Council maintain the car park? If so, who should pay for it, the people who use it or every Council Tax payer?
