COLCHESTER will be plunged into darkness from December 1.
Essex County Council has set a new date for the part-night lighting scheme to be rolled out across the borough.
The lights, except those in the town centre and in areas with CCTV, were due to go off between midnight and 5am on Monday but the switch-off was delayed after an eleventh hour challenge to the decision.
But the challenge has now been withdrawn and the lights will go off from midnight on Sunday December 1.
