A religious society fears its meetings will be ruined by noise if a bar is allowed to open early.
Edward's in Colchester wants to start serving at 10am on Sunday mornings.
However, the Head Street bar backs on to the Friends' Meeting House where Quakers hold their services. The Quakers fear their silence will be shattered if the bar's opening times change.
Edwards is already licensed to open from 10am on Sundays but it still needs planning permission. Planners are expected to give the extended opening hours the go-ahead tomorrow.
