A black cloud is hanging over post offices in north Essex as they wait for a Government announcement on funds.
Colchester sub-postmaster Neil Wolton says closures are imminent and it will be "disastrous" if they happen in large numbers.
Many believe a further cut in the number of rural post offices would badly hit communities, especially those who rely on post offices as their "banks".
Trade and Industry Secretary Alistair Darling is expected to announce how much money the Government will give on Thursday. The Post Office will then decide its plan of action.
