Town centre chiefs have been forced to pull the plug on Colchester's High Street Christmas lights.
The news comes after two sets of lights plummeted to the ground in high winds last month.
Nick Clarke, Colchester Town Partnership chairman, today said: "The lights had fallen down because untested' hooks had been used, and progress to put the lights back up had been unsatisfactory."
He added: "I feel very sorry for the residents, visitors and traders in Colchester. However, I know and feel strongly that the town partnership has done all it can in difficult circumstances."
