A HOSPICE has been given a grant of £100,000 to cut bureaucracy and allow staff to focus on helping patients.
The money, given to St Helena Hospice, based in Highwoods, is made up of £20,000 from Colchester Catalyst and £80,000 from the Department of Health.
It will be used to pay for a new IT system, which will allow hospice staff to spend more time looking after patients and less time filling in paper work.
Stella Fletcher, director of business transformation at the hospice, said: “Time saved through real time patient records access and being able to update patient records whilst with the patient will allow hospice staff the time to make more visits and spend more time with individual patients.
“Last year the St Helena Hospice team made nearly 20,000 community visits, so instant record access would make a substantial difference to caring for patients and their families in their own home.
“We’re incredibly grateful to Catalyst for their ongoing investment.”
Rodney Appleyard, of Colchester Catalyst, added: “Patients will benefit from this investment and by putting the money in, we can make a massive difference.”
The charity has also handed over £9,201 to the Foxburrow Grange dementia home, in Ypres Road, Colchester, to help pay for a new sensory and reminiscence room, designed to put patients at ease.
