Scope :
The identification, planning, marketing, development and management of all promotional activity designed to increase and or retain readership of the paid for newspapers in the Region and the development of sponsorship revenue.


Main objectives :

  • To create, plan and co-ordinate the promotions activity for all paid for titles in the Region
  • To liaise with Advertising, Editorial and Newspaper Sales to ensure there is a clear understanding of the promotions that are being run
  • To secure high quality offers and competitions for the company
  • To secure targeted sponsorship revenue for the company
  • To track and monitor the performance of competitions and promotions

Key Activities, Skills and Responsibilities :

  • Planning – A key function of this role will be to plan and deliver a comprehensive promotions plan for the paid for titles in the Essex Region. Focus will be given to the needs of the daily titles. The role will require a comprehensive understanding of each title’s primary target audiences, and will see promotional plans developed on the basis of reader interests and needs.
  • Delivery – Whilst it is not envisaged that every promotion and competition will be devised and secured via this role a significant proportion will. This role will require someone who is capable of dealing directly with businesses and who will have the ability to persuade them of the benefits of partnering with us on competitions and promotions.
  • Sales – This role will require sales skills to secure promotions, competitions and sponsorship.
  • Communication – The role demands high calibre communications skills as there is a need deal with internal and external customers, as well as to work with the senior teams within the company.
  • Customers – This role requires a high customer orientation. There needs to be a real appreciation of the needs of promotional partners and sponsors. This must be aligned to a comprehensive understanding of our target audiences by title and area, and a desire to add value to the products they read.
  • Online – It is vital that there is a clear understanding of our internet services and how these should work in conjunction with our paper products to produce the best possible experience for our customers.
