FIRE fighters were called to fields on fire behind Sydney Street, Colchester.
Damage was caused to the gardens of three homes in the road that back onto the fields.
Crews from Colchester and Wivenhoe were called out at 6.20pm and had the fire out within an hour.
Essex County Fire and Rescue Service has said it is believed the fire was started on purpose.
