YOUNGSTERS learnt about life on the river when Brightlingsea Harbour opened up its waters.

The harbour commission invited primary school classes from around Colchester to six event days.

Pupils learnt about watery wildlife, sailing, dredging and what to do if someone falls overboard.

Children spent their time on three boats, including learning to fish with a trawl net from a small motor boat and sailing on the 69-foot Pioneer sailing smack.
