FIREFIGHTERS are paying tribute to one of their own who died last month.

Martin Sibley, 48, of Keymer Way, Colchester, served Essex for 24 years, 22 of them in Colchester.

Today crews in Colchester's fire engines joined the cortege, and Mr Sibley's family, through the town from 10.30am and onto Colchester Crematorium, for his funeral.

His coffin was carried on an old style turntable ladder.

A guard of honour including the Essex County Fire and Rescue Service standard bearer was set up at the Mersea Road cemetery.

Acting Chief Fire Officer Adam Eckley and Assistant Chief Fire Officer Dave Bill, who heads operations, will pay tribute to Martin’s many years of public service.

The service will be conducted by the fire service chaplain Rob Binks and flags will be flown at half mast.

The father-of-two was found dead at his home on Monday, June 17.

His death is not being treated as suspicious and an inquest has been opened.
