A 200-year-old oak tree was ripped apart when it was struck by lightning.
The tree, in Fiddlers Hill, Fordham, had to be cut down after its branches were blown 50 yards away.
Mick Green, 59, of AM and MG Green tree contractors, Wivenhoe, said the tree, which was 6ft wide, just shattered.
The tree was hit at 10.30am during stormy weather on Sunday.
