A budget supermarket has been turned down despite pleas from a local business that they may face closure if it does not go ahead.
Joint applicants Lidl and landowners, agricultural machinery company, Ernest Doe and Sons, applied to build a new supermarket and agricultural showroom on the Ernest Doe site in Rayne Road, Braintree.
The decision, at a Braintree Council development control committee meeting last night, comes after Braintree councillors at an area committee meeting went against planning officers recommendations and agreed the application.
