TWO men have been arrested after an incident on board a plane in UK airspace.
An RAF Typhoon jet was scrambled as a result of the incident on a Pakistani passenger aircraft bound for Manchester Airport.
The plane, flight number PK709, was diverted to Stansted Airport where officers from Essex Police boarded and arrested two men on suspicion of endangering an aircraft.
The incident on the board the flight from Lahore is not thought to be terrorism-related at this stage, it is understood, and happened around 10 minutes before the plane was scheduled to land in Manchester.
Detectives are taking the two men, aged 30 and 41, to police station for interview.
In the latest development, Essex Police have said a statement will be read by Superintendent Darrin Tomkins at 5.30pm outside the airport's police station.
