DETECTIVES investigating the murder of a man in Colchester have said the two suspects threatened him a knife and a gun.

The man, 26, was staying at a friend's flat off St Peter's Street when the suspects forced their way in around 1.30am on Saturday.

A second man sustained a cut to his hand.

A post-mortem has found the murder victim died from a stab wound to the chest.

CCTV images of the suspects has now been released.

Det Chief Insp Mark Hall said: "I would ask anyone who recognises the suspects to contact police. After leaving the flat I believe the two men fled via the riverside path that runs behind Charles House, before getting into a dark Ford Fiesta parked in St Peters Street, close to the junction with Middle Mill. I would appeal to anyone who may have seen this vehicle leaving the area to contact police.

"These men forced their way into a flat where the victim was staying, armed with a knife. One of the men was also in possession of a handgun. They violently assaulted and killed the victim who was unable to defend himself; as such I consider them to be very dangerous individuals. It is vital that they are identified and arrested as soon as possible. They should not be approached, but I urge anyone who recognises them to contact police immediately on 101."

The suspects are described as white men who were wearing hooded tops, tracksuit type clothing and with their faces covered.  They were both about 6ft tall and average build.
