Wedding cars vetoed in high street ban - even to council wedding venue

Wedding cars vetoed in high street ban - even to council wedding venue Wedding cars vetoed in high street ban - even to council wedding venue

EVERY bride dreams of making a grand entrance to her wedding by pulling up in a luxury car.

But the high street car ban makes no exception for wedding vehicles, even for ceremonies at the council’s town hall.

Wedding car companies said the council has shot itself in the foot and couples will book elsewhere.

The council said it has parking accessible through the Dutch Quarter and will review it in the first six months of the trial.

Yeh, like every bride would relish the thought of arriving via the back door!

Definitely an Own Goal for the Council, or will they, after Six months make an exception that will suit their own needs?

Hopefully, the same ban will apply to all visiting VIP's arriving in Colchester!!

Sorry Your Majesty, but if you round the back we'll let you in!!

Excellent.

Oh dear, the best day of a girls life in ruins.
no big entrance for new brides now,
just an afterthought tradesmans entrance to be used perhaps.
Quite simply not on this exclusion is it,
it needs someone with a bit of foresight to be enabled to issue a pre arranged pass for entry into the verboten zone for special occasions.
perhaps a wedding carriage in the form of a bus would work?
the 1970`s on the buses comedy springs to mind here.

The CBC website makes no mention of not having vehicle access from the High Street! It also says there is disabled parking in the High Street!

There won't be after 17 March. Isn't that be confusing for anyone planning a wedding at the Town Hall.

Clear out all the local politicians and town planners in Colchester and Chelmsford between them they have systematically destroyed my home town.
The proposed ban is not going to work properly without a viable ring road and a Park and Ride.
I now visit the town centre less than 6 times a year ,it is a dump with not very much to offer.

And if CBC grant themselves special dispensation then the same will have to apply to The George Hotel and any other High Street venue that hosts wedding receptions.

True it would need to be all venues.

However I'm assuming that cars will be able to reach the side of the town hall which means the bride will have to walk an extra 20 yards!!

How stupid can this councl be ?
Of course they will "review" it but I guarantee it will be sooner than six months when they realise the loss of revenue from functions such as weddings.

What about guests for the Oyster Feast "Round the back darling" We'll see !!

Our town is a first rate example of the institution being controlled by its most inadequate inmates.

I was married at the Town Hall. Pulling up outside the building in our wedding car, outside the Town Hall of the town I have lived in most of my life, was great ad added to the whole experience. I hope this doesn't happen.

Thanks angryman, actually my life has been and still is great as some of the few people that know who I really am can confirm.
I have travelled to and worked in many of the worlds trouble spots and can only confirm my thoughts about the town .
It is dangerous at times mostly filthy and run down, fortunately I rarely need to visit the town centre.
Sadly I am too old to re mortgage and move away so I will bide my time and continue to enjoy the right to express my views from the comfort of my armchair on my day off.

It appears one can still be driven in a taxi, an opportunity for a local firm to have a special car for hire?

These restrictions are neither one thing nor the other; either close the High Street and reinvent it, or allow it to take the pressure off the other roads in the area.

No, it isn't! Up until 18 months ago I lived right next to the town centre. Some roads such as Queen Street and Military Road are disgraceful some days - drunks walking around with trophu dogs off the lead letting their animals foul all over the place, people fighting and swearing, rubbish everywhere. Yet move outside of the town centre and it rapidly changes. I love Colchester, but the area around the town centre is rapidly declining, which is why we moved out. Sadly, many people can't afford to.

I'm tempted to start writing a sitcom about council incompetence. Some of the decisions and policies are comedy gold at the moment. The Thick of It meets Twenty Twelve in a local government setting. Maybe I could get a grant from Firsts*ite to finance the project?

I think the car ban is so daft, just another nail in the coffin for the High Street

It worked well in Chelmsford, which eventually became pedestrianised.

I think it's quite sad that they won't make exceptions for wedding cars! I got married at the town hall and they kindly put cones out for our two vehicles to be able to park right outside. After our ceremony we walked outside and straight into the vehicles to be waved off by our family and friends, it was lovely! Having to walk around the corner wouldn't have spoilt our wedding but it would have made me think twice about booking it there! It's a shame,
It's not like there's weddings there everyday of the week!
