Council looking into Nectar point-style recycling reward scheme

Gazette: Will Quince backs a reward system for recycling but is against fining residents for not recycling. Will Quince backs a reward system for recycling but is against fining residents for not recycling.

RESIDENTS who recycle regularly could be rewarded with Nectar points, according to Colchester’s waste boss.

Martin Hunt said as well as having the power to punish residents who do not recycle by fining them, he also wanted to be able to reward those who already do.

“While it is important for me to have the power to issue the fixed penalty notices, we need to find a way where people who already recycle are rewarded,” said Mr Hunt, borough councillor responsible for waste.

“So at the moment, we are looking at using a Nectar point-style system for people who are recycling as an incentive.

“There are a lot of people in Colchester who are already doing the right things and that is why it is such a difficult decision to focus on people who are not.”

It is understood Colchester Council is also in talks with Tesco Clubcard and green group Recyclebank.

I read with great interest and joy upon reading this article, a keen recycler and a Nectar card user but then i came hone from work at 19:00 hours only to see my green recycling bin still sat on my drive and full, how are we supposed to be rewarded with Nectar points if the council can't even collect the recycling that we make a big effort to do so they can achieve their targets for recycling!!!!!! At the time of writing this 20:30 hours, it is still sat outside. :(

I am a keen recycler but I am sick to the teeth of Martin Hunt and his cronies threatening me and then reading about recycling day in and day out in the Gazette.
I am getting close to the point where I am thinking of just chucking it all in the same bag.
A week ago Colchester hospital was named as one of the top in the country for patient deaths, not a meention of it in our local paper only more news about how our council officers are slowly but surely ruining our town.
Rant over for today!

So the reward is for providing CBC with recycling material rather than for recycling?
A lot of us recycle without it getting anywhere near the council, mainly because we have no idea what happens next. No nectar points for us though despite the fact that we must be reducing costs.
Unless they get paid for the recyclable materials they provide. If people are stealing metal surely cbc is getting paid for providing it through collections?

How is the council supposed to know what you get up to in private? Why do some people just whine all the time instead of getting on with life?
