Man hospitalised in Colchester bar attack

POLICE have renewed an appeal for information after a serious assault at a Colchester bar left a man with a triple fracture to his jaw.

Officers were called to Silk Road for one of 17 incidents around the town centre on New Year’s Eve.

They included serious assaults in North Hill, Crouch Street and High Street.
But the most serious was in Silk Road on St Botolph’s Street.

During the early hours of New Year’s Day a 25-year-old man was attacked so badly he spent two days in hospital.

Det Con Eva Woods said: “The victim was at the bar with friends for New Year’s Eve when he was assaulted at the rear of the premises near the fire escape.

"A person believed to have been involved in the assault is thought to have been among a group of people who were ejected from the bar by the door staff.

"One of those ejected was a white man, in his mid 20s, with short dark brown hair and tattoos on both arms.

“He was wearing a white T-shirt. We would like to talk to him in connection with this investigation.”

Anyone with information should contact Det Con Woods at Colchester CID on 101.

Horrible place. Full of wannabe gangsters and druggies. I wouldn't set foot in that dump if you paid me.

It is not the place but the people who frequent it.

Problem is Colchester is full of wanna be gangsters, all less than five foot five and 11 stone, I've had bigger turds than some of these wanna be's. Horrible place to go out. Hate it.

Couldn't agree more, when it opened Silk Road was one of the few decent places in town to go of an evening but these days as stated previously its full of jumped up little muppets and middle aged wasters. It used to have good knowledgable bar staff and was furnished nicely not like the bare spit and sawdust type layout now. Does it still have the laughable "VIP" section?

Mm, described as a lounge and cocktail bar, maybe someone should inform trading standards as it is far from this! When we had officiers on the beat they used to randomly walk into bars and pubs, it was where they would find most of the no marks they were looking for during the day?

It does indeed have the ridiculous VIP section. I've been in that place twice and both times I've sensed "ATTITUDE" as soon as I walked in. The doormen are rude and aggressive, you have to navigate your way across the "dance floor" just to get in the flipping place, the bar staff are impolite and surly, there's nowhere to sit and don't even get me started on the "clientele". God awful place and I can't believe the manager even came on here trying to defend the place last time it was in the paper for the wrong reasons. It's the main reason Queen St is a no-go-zone at closing time, not the kebab shops.

This is ridiculous, our major town is a wonderful place with history and the oldest recorded town in GB. However, it seems you cannot go for an evening out for fear of getting into a fight. The council should be very proud of themselves for giving out licences all over the place and never revoking them.

I have spent the last 20 years travelling and working in developing countries mostly run by ex war lords and still recovering from civil war and economic collapse.
I have never felt as intimidated as I do on the rare visits I make into the town centre in the evening.
The council have a lot of responsibilty for this hell hole ,they have failed to develop the area and handed out licences left right and centre to people whose only interest is profit with no social responsibility.
Colchester like a lot of other towns in the UK is a no go zone for peace loving people who just want to go out for a meal and a stroll in the evening.from time to time.
