A DRUNKEN brawl broke out between a group of people on a residential street in the first hour of the new year.

About ten people are thought to have been fighting on Cliff Road, Dovercourt, in the early hours of Tuesday morning, January 1.

Police were called just after 12.30am but officers couldn’t find a victim.

With no one at the scene wishing to help police with inquiries, bystanders soon began to leave the area and a short time later the police officers did likewise.

A brawl cannot take place "between" a group of people. "Between" means there are only two people involved. The journalist should have used the word "among".
