Will this be the wettest December on record for Colchester?
1:06pm Thursday 27th December 2012 in News
DECEMBER could prove to be one of the wettest on record in Colchester, according to experts.
A further 3.5mm of rain was expected today in the town with another 5.6mm over the weekend and another deluge of 7.2mm on New Year’s Eve.
A flood alert has been issued, and remains in place, for the River Colne from Great Yeldham to Colchester and the Environment Agency expects water levels to rise again before the end of the year.
Met Office figures suggest this will be one of the wettest years since 1910, which is even more remarkable considering the drought at the start of the year.

The Gazette's own 7-day forecast shows we shall not in fact get much rain. But of course the ground is saturated, as is shown by the U's match being called off because of the waterlogged pitch, so even a modest amount of rain could cause problems here and there - but nothing compared to what they have had in the west country.
