Castle Park contractor named best in the country
THE work carried out to keep Colchester’s Castle Park up to scratch has been recognised as the best in the country.
Veolia, the contractor hired by Colchester Castle, has been awarded the principal winner in the British Association of Landscape Industries awards in the grounds maintenance of public grounds category.
Judges ruled the work carried out by Veolia was superior to Regents Park and Thames Barrier Park in London, and Bancroft Gardens in Stratford-upon-Avon.

I am told that they beat off stiff competition from among others the Royal Parks and something that impressed the judges was the fact that they had opened new attractions (playground and dry garden) in the last 18 months, showed that they were managing things very well on an increasingly tight budget. The comment came straight from a BALI representative.
Castle park and the parks services generally are an area of Colchester Borough Council that is well run, efficient, and lives up to its promises.
They deserve this level of recognition and we can all be justifiably proud of this resource in our town.
Just for the record, I neither work for the Parks Services, nor the contractors (Veiolia). What I have said is however, my professional opinion.

All our open spaces, like 'East bay' playing fields, our out of town shopping square's, like Shrub End, Greenstead, Monkwick, are all ankle deep in soggy leaves, and generally in a filthy state.
It's really hard to see where the
'Unpaid work' is carried out in Colchester, maybe the organisers of
unpaid work, should take a leaf out of Veiola's book..
No pun intended.

Well done to Veiolia...Maybe they should be put in charge of all the 'Unpaid Work' court sentences that are handed out to law-breakers in Colchester..
