Police today launched an investigation after two bodies were found at the same flat within hours of each other.
A contaminated batch of drugs is "one line of inquiry being taken" by detectives who confirmed both died of suspected drug overdoses.
Officers were standing guard outside the flat in Buffett Way, Greenstead, Colchester, after the discovery of a woman's body today.
An Essex Police spokesman said they were first called to the flat just before 7pm on Monday to reports of an unconscious man. The 33-year-old died that evening of a suspected drugs overdose.
