SAFETY improvements to a dangerous junction will be completed before Christmas.

Concerns had been raised about Mersea Road, Colchester, on the stretch between the new Praecedo estate and Berechurch Road by residents and councillors.

An Essex County Council spokesman said: "Essex Highways have been working with the developer to add some additional road markings to the area and a new sign will also be installed within the next three weeks to assist drivers who are unfamiliar with the new road layout. In regard to the traffic signals."

"some additional road markings .... and a new sign"

Well, that will help won't it! They seem to have failed to understand that the problem is the layout of the junction. It is a disaster waiting to happen. It needs a sensible layout, not yet more markings and signs to confuse and distract people.

Agree with Meryltheperil here, what's needed is, when travelling south along Mersea road, the left lane to be straight on AND a left turn instead of left turn only. Who designs these things? Wake up!

I drove down that road the other day at said location and I can't say I've noticed anything more inconvenient in the layout than found at other modern road junctions. Except perhaps to say that some drivers do insist on driving over mini roundabouts down that way instead of around them so the paint wears off quickly.
