Thousands of people ooohed and ahhhed as the sky above Colchester's Castle Park was lit up with colour on Saturday night.
Charity fundraisers King Coel's Kittens' 39th fireworks spectacular was a hit with an audience of 8,000 people of all ages.
The crowd, armed with glow sticks and warmed up with entertainment from local magician Michael J Fitch, watched as the guy was paraded around the park and thrown on to the massive bonfire.
Then more than £9,000 worth of fireworks were detonated in a 25-minute barrage of colourful explosions.
