In today's Gazette: Fishermen flee ship crash

In today's Gazette: A cargo ship left a trail of destruction when it got lost i the fog and smashed into a jetty and boats at Brightlingsea harbour.

The 88 metre long vessel crashed into a floating pontoon and sent fishermen scattering.

* Disgraced Tory peer Lord Hanningfield racked up a £268,000 bill using an Essex County Council credit card.

The card helped him to fund a lavish lifestyle including trips to the Bahamas, India, Hong Kong and the US as well as dinners in top London restaurants.

* A senior detective has said people are protecting the killer of teenager Jay Whiston. Jay, 17, died after being stabbed outside a house party in Marlowe Way, Colchester. Four people were yesterday arrested on suspicion on aiding an offender.

* Antique dealers have lost thousands of pounds in stock in two raids.

Goods, including a signed photographer by Audrey Hepburn, were stolen from Gosfield Shopping Village and Halstead Antiques Centre.
