Foo Fighters
V Stage, Saturday, 9.20pm

Not being a heavy rock fan, I wasn't sure what to expect from the Foo Fighters, or whether I would like it.

The rock veterans headlined the main stage and the anticipation surrounding their performance was building throughout the day.

First, they played a surprise set immediately after the Road to V competition winners, Colchester band Rosalita, debuted at the V Festival.

Warming up the crowd on a bright and sunny afternoon, the Foos played a handful of their more popular hits, leaving the crowd salivating for more.

But they left their best until the end and performed an energetic 90 minute set to thousands of festival-goers.

The Foos have played V Festival before, but this is the first time they have headlined.

They played favourites Monkey Wrench, My Hero, Best of You and All My Life, as well as giving previews from the group's new album, Echoes, Silence, Patience, Grace.

It's hard to stand still when the Foos are on and the energy is catchy - moshing and head-banging were spreading through the crowd. Some people had to be pulled free from the front for their own safety.

Singer Dave Grohl, former drummer with Nirvana, paid tribute to his old band and other V acts during the set.

And he has perfected his skill of interacting with the audience. He has a way of making the crowd feel appreciated - his teasing comments and invitations to his hotel room came as though from a friend sitting in your living room.

While the Foo Fighters might not be my cup of tea, their performance at the V Festival certainly offered a thrilling performance and one that cannot be forgotten.
