1Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Mercury Theatre, Balkerne Gate, Colchester, until January 14, various times. £11.50 to £28 with discounts available. 01206 573948.

There’s just one more week to go to capture one of the best pantomimes the Colchester theatre has ever produced. With some more than familiar funny faces, as well as some very pleasant new attractions to the Mercury stage, it’s not to be missed, if only for that mirror scene.

2Grayson Perry: The Life of Julie Cope, Firstsite, Lewis Gardens, Colchester, until February 18, 10am to 5pm. Free. 01206 713700.

What better way to brighten up the darkest, dankest and dullest of all the months than by immersing yourself in the colourful world of Essex artist Grayson Perry. His homage to the everyday Woman is beautifully imagined through beautiful tapestries and other art works.

3Elliot Steel, Junior Simpson and Dave Fulton, The Laughter Zone, Colchester Arts Centre, Church Street, Colchester, tonight, doors 8pm. £10, £8 concessions. 01206 500900.

It’s the place where Eddie Izzard and Michael McIntyre first cut their comedy teeth and who knows what future lies in wait for tonight’s line-up. Just remember you saw them here first.

4Paddington 2, Firstsite Art Gallery, Lewis Gardens, Colchester, tomorrow and Sunday, 2.30pm. £5. 01206 713700.

One of the highlights of my Christmas was seeing this gorgeously charming film, which for me is a little bit like if an Ealing Comedy met the Grand Budapest Hotel. With a raft full of stars including Hugh Grant on top form, it’s definitely worth catching again.

5Brubecks Plays Brubeck, Colchester Arts Centre, Church Street, Colchester, Sunday, doors 7pm. £20, £18 concessions. 01206 500900.

The Colchester Arts Centre’s Jazz Club are setting the bar very high for the first gig of the season. I’m told tickets are harder to get than a Miles Davis first press, but you can always put your name down on the returns list. Worth it for this line-up.
