FAMILIES are in for another treat at the Colchester Arts Centre with the return of Norfolk-based Garlic Theatre.

Founded in 1996, Garlic have performed to young audiences in theatres, festivals, art centres and schools throughout the United Kingdom and have toured 15 international countries, winning five awards in International Puppet Festivals along the way.

Challenging and entertaining people of all ages through shows which encourages imaginative play and develops a new awareness of the power of puppet animation, they work in collaboration with guest directors, storytelling consultants and musicians to work on their productions.

This weekend the company will be bringing their latest treat, Old Mother Hubbard and Her Cupboard to the Church Street venue.

Performed by Iklooshar Malara with music composed by Jonathan Lambert, join Old Mother Hubbard as she clatters about her kitchen hanging out the washing and making breakfast with her dancing dog Oscar at her side.

Their little world of friendship and harmony is interrupted by the squeaking of a little mouse in the cupboard and the fleeting appearance of a mysterious furry paw.

Both are then thrilled when they get an invitation to a party, but who sent it and why is it in the deep dark woods?

Complete with beautifully crafted glove puppets, folk music and enchanting slapstick storytelling, it takes place this Saturday, November 21, at 2pm.

Most suitable for ages three to seven, all tickets are priced £4.95, available by calling 01206 500900 or on the doors, which open at 1.30pm.
