BRITISH comedy treasure Julian Clary is back doing what he does best, making people laugh.

And what better place to do it than on home turf – well sort of.

By his own admission, the comedian’s birth was apparently the result of a passionate moment on the beach while his parents were on holiday in Clacton.

Viewers of popular BBC series Who Do You Think You Are? will also be aware of his local ancestral links to Thorpe-le-Soken.

This week he’s just over the Suffolk border at the Ipswich Regent for the latest stop on his new UK tour.

Born in Surbiton, Surrey, and now living in Kent, Clary has enjoyed an unusually varied career since he first started to attract notice in the early Eighties with his Joan Collins Fan Club routine.

In his latest show, Position Vacant: Apply Within, the master of camp – and Celebrity Big Brother Winner – is scouring the land in search of love, and he’s promised to leave no straight stone unturned.

Promoting the show, Julian says: “Because I’m still considered to be quite a catch, and because your area is noted for its heterosexuals on the cusp, there’s bound to be stiff competition.

“I’ll be hosting ruthless elimination games. A glass of Blue Nun may be available to those who make an effort, or anyone named Jason. But please, bring your own confetti.”
