First in business studies opens a door to auditing job for Christina
A range of vocation-based courses are still on offer at South Essex College of Further & Higher Education which has campuses in Basildon, Southend, and Thurrock
Ruby Chittenden, the college’s communications co-ordinator, said: “Our courses start from just £7,000 a year, so the fees are well below the national average and are among the lowest in the region.”
Students will have access to the Forum, the £27million library and learning zone, which has one of the largest ranges of books in the south east, and is equipped with the latest technology for a state-of-the-art learning technology.
One former student who has proven it’s never too late to apply for a course is Christina Wheatley.
She applied for her business studies degree through clearing in 2011 and graduated this year with first class honours from the Southend campus.
Christina said: “Because of family commitments, it was a few years after my A Levels when I thought about going to university. I wanted to get my career started and in July 2011 I looked into going to university. I thought at first I’d left it too late.
“Luckily, I was told about the clearing process and went from there. It was the best thing I’ve ever done as I now have a first class degree in business studies.
“Also, because the college is local to me, I could do the course while supporting my family.
“My tutors also gave me strong support after I had completed my degree, especially in helping me find a job with an auditing company.”
