AN eyewitness has spoken of her shock after a car came flying across a busy dual carriageway, narrowly missing other vehicles.
The Nissan coupe smashed though flowerbeds on the central reservation on Balkerne Hill at about 2.40pm yesterday.
The eyewitness said: "It was terrifying - I thought he (the driver) was dead.
"He flew through the air and crashed down. People in the car in front helped pull him out - they had to get him out of the passenger side, because his door was crushed."
Despite the ferocity of the impact and the obvious damage to the car, the driver, believed to be a man in his early 20s, was seen walking around after the crash.
He was treated by paramedics but is only believed to have suffered minor injuries.
Firefighters were called to the scene as a precaution.
The road was initially closed in both directions, while officers investigated the crash, causing traffic tailbacks that impacted throughout the town.
The wrecked vehicle was eventually removed just before 5pm, with the road completely reopening later.
