VOLLEYBALL England has unveiled Alex Porter as the community development coach (CDC) for Tendring.
He is part of a team of 14 individuals selected to drive an increase in participation – 5,000 more young people – across various regional locations in England.
Porter has a solid background in volleyball.
From playing for Tendring school, he became captain of the British men’s indoor volleyball squad until an injury forced him to quit two years ago.
Knowing he wanted to stay involved despite the setback, he looked into the Paralympic sitting discipline, but did not meet the strict criteria to compete as a disabled athlete.
The community development programme is a chance for him to maintain his involvement in a sport that he loves, within a community he knows well.
Tendring’s CDC partners are Colne School Sports Partnership, North East Essex PCT and Tendring Technology College.
Porter said: “Tendring volleyball has given me so much.
“It’s time to give something back by helping other young players develop.”
