RESIDENTS have been warned to beware burglars operating in the area.
A crook attempted to break in to a property on Red Barn Lane, Great Oakley on Friday, December 19.
It happened at about 7pm.
The homeowner heard the intruder in his kitchen and began shouting so the crook ran off.
Anyone who saw anyone acting suspiciously in the area is asked to call Det Con Mo Crawley at Clacton CID on 101.
Det Con Crawley said: "I would like to urge people to be vigilant about their home security and to lock their doors and windows when not at home and after dark.”
Essex Police also urged people to conceal boxes containing valuable presents before putting out the rubbish.
Burglars look out for boxes for games systems, televisions and electronics in particular.
If throwing the boxes away rip them up and conceal them in a plain box to avoid advertising what you may have worth stealing.
