ONE of the biggest and best of the ever-increasing number of wedding

fayres in Scotland is due to be held shortly in the plush environs of

the Glasgow Moat House International.

The Roberta Buchan Wedding Fayre has to be one of the longest

established in the country, having been on the go for around 17 years.

For the past three it has been held in the Moat House to which it

returns on Sunday. Last year, the fayre had a phenomal turn-out of more

than 1500 brides-to-be, mothers of the brides, sisters et al.

Confident in their expectation of the fayre's equal attractions for

1994, the organisers are urging prospective visitors to buy their #2

tickets ahead of the day at the Roberta Buchan bridal salon, 176 Hope

Street, to avoid queues at the hotel.

Roberta Buchan herself certainly has no lack of enthusiam, despite

many years at the forefront of fayres and bridal wear and despite the

wear and tear on the nerves from staging such a mammoth event. She said:

''Last year really was great but this year is going to be spectacular.

There will be lots of exhibitors and we are expecting a good turn-out.

Every year just seems to get better and there is always a really good

atmosphere at the event.''

A glamorous and fun occasion, the Roberta Buchan Wedding Fayre is of

course more than just a chance for a ladies day out and the opportunity

to relax among friends. The fayre is a very practical aid to anyone

attempting to pull together all the paraphernalia of a modern day

wedding with all or even just some of the trimmings.

Said Roberta: ''People sometimes do not realise how much organisation

goes into a wedding and that they have to plan well ahead for their big

day. The wedding fayre brings together a host of experts, who can be

consulted, and ideas and options for weddings.''

A span of experts will be on hand at the fayre, which runs from 12 to

5pm, to discuss bridal issues from the all-important dress to flowers,

transport, videos, and cakes. Also in attendance at the event will be

Carolyn Barwell, editor of Brides magazine, who will be available to

dispense well-researched insights into the latest and most tried and

trusted wedding formats, dresses and traditions.

Her presence lends an official stamp to the premiere status of the

wedding fayre in Scotland and likewise, it has attracted some of the

biggest and best names in the business as participants.

Cake designs will be on show from the likes of Tunnock's Bakeries and

Lightbody's. Bonnyton Designs will be showcasing their range of dried

flowers while Blooms will have an olfactory and visually appealing

display of the fresh variety and McCormick Printers will be there to

demonstrate stationery options for big day invitations and menu cards.

The appeal of a moving celluloid reminder of the wedding can be

investigated at the Reflections Videos or the Style company stand and

Ian Barry photographers are also taking part in the event to advocate

equally evocative but stiller reflections of the big day.

Decorated favours from Italia Roselli will also line up at the fayre

alongside such names The Ringmaker -- for rings and other jewellery in

which the bride can shine -- and Little's Chauffeur Drive.

The Stockwell China Bazaar and Congratulations will be previewing

different ways of drawing up and administrating wedding lists and

suggesting a few possibilities of very acceptable gifts, while

suggestions on how to dance the night away are available from Nat

Sanderson (Music) and disco specialists Hi Tec Entertainment.

Longer lasting considerations can be mulled over with representatives

from Tupperware and the Prudential, while the two scheduled catwalk

shows will display a range from the Roberta Buchan bridal and daywear

selections, kilts for the grooms from MacDonald MacKay, of Hope Street,

and bridal hairstyles from Murdo MacLean of Exchange Square.

Another attraction of the fayre will be the announcement of the winner

of a competition run in conjunction with Radio Clyde for which Roberta

Buchan is offering a first prize of a #1000 bridal dress -- of the

winner's choice -- which will be presented during the fashion show.

On top of all this, the fayre also affords brides the opportunity to

check out the possibility of the Moat House for their big day and the

undoubted attraction of celebrating the occasion at the waterfront in

style.
