Another supermarket set for Colchester?

First published in News

COLCHESTER could be in line for another mini-supermarket.

Work has started on combining four shops into one large unit in Cotman Road, on Colchester’s Prettygate estate – just 50ft from a Co-op store.

Residents say they are almost certain the site has been earmarked by a major supermarket, although nothing has been officially confirmed.

They have criticised the planning process, which has allowed Colchester-based Hills Building Group to convert the shops into a single unit.

The company initially applied to turn three units into four to create a row of smaller shops.

Incompetent Prettygate ward councillors failed to keep tabs on the planning app. Then they (according to the printed paper) moan about it. If they had known what they were doing, they would have mounted a proper battle about it, and they might have won. And one of them wants to be our MP. What a joke....

Having looked at the planning consents can see how they missed it. Lots of "non material amendments" gradually changing four shops into one.

Why do have we got a stupid toy shop in the middle of town in a location that is perfect for a mini-Tesco or Coop?? I cannot believe it. I still have to go to the town centre Sainsburys with its ridiculously early closing hours, steep prices and weirdo security guard. The former JJB store would have been perfect for a supermarket, and instead we have an oversized toy shop that will most likely go out of business within 24 months.

Im old enough to remember the Prettygate shops when they relatively new-nothing much has changed in 50 years.
Every confidence in Will-These are the local issues that need to be addressed rather than the Yellow Clown just saying-NO,NO,NO for 43 years!
A great MP WILL be elected in May.

Another thing
The Yellow Clown used to be a DIRECTOR of the local COOP from 1977 to 1983. Hardly surprising that the Yellow party machine is taking a close interest.

I had Mr Quince's latest fan mail through my door today with three of the usual unwanted advertising leaflets. Those three - and his - went straight in the paper collection. Are they really so short of supporters that they can't deliver their olwn leaflets any more? Not MP material I think.

I am not a Politician but I have canvassed all around the country over the years. The fact that you recognised the party leaflet before it hit the bin would have been a major plus for any party worker!
The worst thing for any Politician is to be ignored. That's why we elect MPs who have the ear of Government Ministers-so we can get things done.
Not loners who bang on about their little pet subjects for 43 years and are treated like clowns by central government.

There are 7 LD "Knights" out of 56 LD MPs.
A backbench gong to keep them voting with the party whips.

Lets be very clear. The Lib Dems are NO DIFFERENT to the two main parties. We all got sold a lot of hot air from Nick Clegg, Bobby R and the odious Anne Turrell over the past 4 years. NONE of them have achieved anything at national, MP or local level. Bob Russel for example has asked more questions in parliament about his personal abuse on Twitter than he has about the state of GA railways - something that impacts thousands of his constituents. At the next general election one hopes that the public will see that there are only two parties. Left wing and Right wing - choose your preference. The LibDems are only fit for the hospital Wing.

When I passed the site this week, I noticed the usual piles of rubbish at the back of the CooP. And of course the CooP have got at Foodstore next to the Liberal HQ in Wimpole Road. There was no objection to that one from Russell.
