Oops...bus sign that is too confusing for words

YOU would be forgiven for being slightly confused at this Colchester bus stop – not only is the road name misspelt, but is in the wrong location, too.

The sign in Axial Drive, Colchester, reads “Tubine Road” when the intended name is Turbine Road – the name of the next street along.

Essex County Council has been made aware of the embarrassing error, but national guidelines mean while it can correct the spelling, it cannot rename the sign.

Read the story in today's Gazette.

Bus stops are frequently named after the side road nearest to the stop which is the case here. If they were named after the road in which they were situated the name would be meaningless, you would have nine called Mersea Road.

A better story would be the misleading rubbish that appears on the EC C electronic signs and even more so the CBC signs at the "Bus Station" and in High Street that bear no relation to the destination shown on the bus

Those electronic signs are a load of rubbish, but what else do you expect from ECC. If your bus hasn't turned up by the time initaially shown on the board, it just disappears. Nothing to say how many minutes the bus is running late, which would be of more help. The arrivals also stay up long after the bus has gone. Not really a real time display at all.
