Colchester’s winning run came to an end at East Grinstead.
They lost 15-11 in their National League division three London and South East encounter to bring their five game winning streak to an end.
Ten minutes into the game the hosts went a man down as a yellow card was shown for going over the top at a ruck.
Colchester then took the lead when David Higgins slotted a penalty kick for an East Grinstead offside.
But the home side hit back with a converted try under the hosts to take a 7-3 lead.
Colchester pulled the deficit back to one point with a penalty to go into the break 7-6 behind.
Colchester captain Pickett then put the visitors in front with an unconverted try.
And East Grinstead were then reduced to 14 men again when they picked up another yellow card for a deliberate knock on.
But that didn’t prevent them from scoring an unconverted try to retake the lead at 12-11.
A penalty stretched their lead to 15-11 and they held on to it until the final whistle.
