Colchester fell to a late defeat at Wimbledon.

They lost their National League division three London and South East encounter 18-16.

Wimbledon took the early advantage in the match scoring under the posts for an easy conversion and a seven point lead.

Outside-half Brett Cutbush cut the deficit to 7-3 with an excellent drop goal to bring Colchester back into the game.

The home side’s lead was cut even further when they were penalised for offside and Tom Miller put the resultant kick through the up rights.

But Wimbledon extended their lead just before half-time to 12-6 with an unconverted try.

They went further in front after the break with a three-point penalty.

But Colchester hit back with a penalty of their own, by Miller.

And Wimbledon were reduced to 14 men when one of their props received a red card.

But Colchester went down to 14 men for ten minutes when Dan Whiteman received a yellow card.

However, Colchester went in front for the first time when Cutbush crossed for a try and Miller added the conversion for a 16-15 lead.

But Colchester picked up another yellow card and saw Matt Smith was sent for a ten-minute rest.

Wimbledon then snatched an 18-16 victory with a late penalty.
