CONNOR Wickham admitted it was a “bit surreal” to play such a heroic role in England’s victory at the European Under-17s Championship.
The Ipswich striker scored twice in the semi-final and then grabbed the winner in the final, as the Three Lions beat Spain 2-1.
And the former Colchester schoolboy said it was a perfect way to end a dream season, having forged his way into Town’s first team and signed a two-year contract at Portman Road.
Wickham said: “I’m still buzzing.
“We’re champions of Europe and that’s a great feeling.
“To score two goals to get us through the semi-final and then to score the winning goal in a final is amazing.
“It caps the season off perfectly.
“To be crowned a European champion with England is a bit surreal, but I’m delighted.”
