FC CLACTON have sealed runners-up spot at the very least, in Ridgeons League division one.

But they will be kicking themselves, after missing the chance to go top of the table.

The Seasiders played out a 2-2 draw with current leaders Great Yarmouth Town, after racing into a two-goal lead.

Clacton got off to the perfect start when Kevin Coyle scored from the penalty spot after three minutes.

And Matt Waters made it 2-0, just before the half hour mark.

But Great Yarmouth scored again with 21 minutes to go.

And they equalised with four minutes remaining to take the title race to the final day.

Clacton trail Great Yarmouth by two points, with one match to play.

Seb Murfet’s goal gave HALSTEAD TOWN all three points in a 1-0 win over Saffron Walden at Rosemary Lane.

Manager Jody Brown was forced to ring the changes with several absentees.

However, Judd Coe returned from injury and assistant-manager Paul Abrahams also started.

But the former Colchester United favourite hobbled off late in the first half and was replaced by Jimmy Pirie.

Both sides started brightly, as play swung from end to end.

The opening chance fell to Halstead when Tom Webb was freed by Adam Gillespie, only to be denied by a good save by keeper Ron Yates.

Then a neat cross shot by Abrahams sailed just wide of the far post.

Jamie Solkhon headed over from Greg Strong’s cross for Saffron Walden while on the stroke of half-time, Pirie should have scored when he fired over from Webb’s cross.

Halstead took the lead in the first minute of the second half when Gillespie found the overlapping Murfet.

He turned inside and beat keeper Yates at the base of the near post with a left-foot drive.

More home pressure followed as Saffron Walden were pushed back on defence.

Adam Rushen had an effort ruled out after he was adjudged to have impeded the keeper, who then denied Lee Townrow's fine header.

Webb’s tremendous drive sailed inches over and Spike Bell cleared off the line from Rushen, before Yates made a fine save to deny Townrow.

The visitors worked hard to keep Halstead at bay, with both Brad Green an Strong always involved.

And late in the game, keeper Ed Wootten pulled off his only real save of the game to deny Bell, as the hosts ran out deserved winners.

WIVENHOE TOWN play host to Wroxham tomorrow tonight, in their final home game at Broad Lane.

The Dragons, who will finish bottom of the Ridgeons League premier division, were beaten 3-1 at home to Histon Reserves on Tuesday night.
