Kevin Hawes was on the scoresheet as WITHAM TOWN beat Bowers and Pitsea 3-2, in the Essex Senior League.

Striker Hawes, who has returned to Spa Road for another spell, helped Town get back to winning ways.

Hawes netted after just three minutes when he chipped keeper Richard Bastin.

Town then went in search of further goals, with Steve Wareham having a shot blocked and David Hawes shooting just wide.

However, the visitors drew level when Craig Gillam scored with a shot that sailed through a crowded goalmouth and just inside the post.

And Bowers and Pitsea went ahead when Gillam scored with a low shot from Bastin’s clearance, following a home corner.

But Witham improved after the break, with both Hawes and Sam Taylor going close.

They eventually got back on level terms when Taylor turned smartly in the box and shot low past Bastin.

And Witham secured three points thanks to an own goal, after Hawes’ powerful header hit a defender and flew into the net.

In Ridgeons League division one, FC CLACTON beat ten-man HALSTEAD TOWN 3-1, at the Rush Green Bowl.
