HALSTEAD Town chairman Jim Holder believes the division one promotion chase could go down to the wire.

Halstead lock swords with Gorleston at Rosemary Lane tomorrow, hoping to pull further away from rivals FC Clacton in third place.

The Seasiders still have games in hand on Town.

But Jody Brown’s side are in good form at present having won their last four league games, scoring 15 goals in the process.

Holder said: “It’s all open at the moment and it’s an interesting scenario.

“Clacton have a lot of games still to play.

“They still have to play Hadleigh who are second, so something has to give.”

Halstead are hoping to make a return to the Ridgeons League premier division, after a two-year absence.

They are the leading goalscorers in the division with 83 goals and have tasted defeat only six times in this campaign.

“It’s been a great season for us so far,” said Holder.

“We had a little bad patch in December when we lost three in a row.

“And there have been a lot of games where we have not scored the goals that we should have done.

“But when you look at the facts, we’ve only lost one of our last 11 games.

“We’re creating chances and we think that we’re capable of winning every game that we play.”

Halstead play host to Gorleston tomorrow, hoping to follow up their 2-1 midweek triumph at Godmanchester with another win.

Chris Bryan’s double proved enough to secure another three points, despite a late goal from the home side.

Holder added: “Gorleston will be a tough game but we feel it is one that we can win.”

Halstead have an injury doubt over striker Bryan, who picked up a groin injury against Godmanchester.
