A test of just how much progress Wivenhoe Town have made under the stewardship of manager Richard Carter will come tonight as Thurrock FC visit Broad Lane in the third round of the Essex Senior Cup.

The Dragons have bounced back from the disappointment of relegation from the Ryman League last season with an impressive start to their Ridgeons League campaign and are flying high in second place in the premier division.

Finding the back of the goal is proving no difficulty with 31 coming in their last six outings in all competitions, including 11 by Charlie Ide and seven from Lee Underwood, and confidence is rightly high at Broad Lane.

Blue Square South side Thurrock could provide a sterner test, however, they are struggling towards the lower reaches of their own league at the moment and Carter is confident his team can cause their visitors problems and make progress in the county cup competition.

“If we turn up and do it properly we are capable of beating them,” he said.

“We will have to work hard, though, so we have to make sure we turn up for the full 90 minutes.

“It is a good chance for us to make a name for ourselves and I will be putting out the strongest team I have available.”
