A former Essex striker has died at the age of 38, prompting tributes from across the county.
James Walker, who had a stint with Maldon & Tiptree, played professionally for Southend United and was a well-known figure on the county's non-league circuit.
Walker joined Maldon & Tiptree in 2018 following spells with East Thurrock United and Canvey Island, bringing a wealth of Football League experience to the club. He later went on to play for Tilbury and remained a respected figure in Essex football.
News of his death was confirmed on Thursday, with former club Southend United leading tributes to the popular striker, who suffered a life-changing cardiac arrest in 2019 and had been living with significant health complications in the years since.
James joined Blues from Charlton Athletic 2008 and scored eight goals in 54 games before leaving two years later.
James was brought to Roots Hall by manager Steve Tilson.
And the ex Blues boss has only happy memories of their time together.
"James was a great lad," said Tilson.
"He was a really bubbly character in the dressing room and he got on well with everyone.
"I never had any issues on or off the pitch with him and he was an exciting player.
"He scored some good goals for us and always liked to get at defenders.
"I have only happy memories of James, there was never anything negative at all.
"He really was a fantastic lad and I'm absolutely devastated to have heard this news."
James suffered a cardiac arrest in 2019 which resulted in significant physical and mental impairments.
In May 2023, the Southend United Ex-Player Association organised a benefit match to raise funds to support James’ recovery.
Tilson and Paul Brush led a Southend United legends team packed full of Shrimpers heroes who all came together to show their support for James.
The club have confirmed a minute's applause will be held before kick-off ahead of Saturday's National League match with Fylde at Roots Hall.
