TRIBUTES have been paid to popular Witham Town club president George Vale who has died.
George was a well-known and popular figure in the Witham community and at all the venues that Town visited.
Over a period spanning more than four decades, he held a number of roles at Witham Town FC.
In a statement, Witham said: 'Everybody at Witham Town was very shocked to hear that club president George Vale passed away on 23rd February.
'George was a well-known and popular figure at the club and in the Witham community.

'He was well-liked at all the venues that Witham Town visited.
'He performed a multitude of tasks at Witham Town over more than 40 years, including being press officer and he was a stalwart of the weekly bingo sessions.
'The thoughts of everybody at Witham Town are with George's widow Betty and the family at this sad time.'
