STEVE Ball has parted company with Maldon and Tiptree in order to take up a new role at Colchester United.

The former U’s player will be assistant to new head coach John McGreal.

Ball, 46, had been in charge at Park Drive since last December and guided the Jammers to a seventh-place finish in Ryman League division north.

During his time with the club, Ball was combining his first-team duties with a full-time coaching role at Colchester.

“Everyone associated with Maldon and Tiptree Football Club would like to place on record our thanks to Steve for his hard work and his run of results while in charge of the Jammers and we wish him all the very best in his new role,” said a Maldon statement.
