Kayode Odejayi scooped Colchester United's Player of the Year award at their end-of-season awards dinner.

The former Barnsley striker claimed the trophy ahead of runner-up Anthony Wordsworth at the event, held at the Weston Homes Community Stadium.

Odejayi, 30, has made 45 league and cup appearances for Colchester this season, scoring five times.

He has impressed with his strong all-round game and provided the perfect foil for the likes of Wordsworth, Ian Henderson and Steven Gillespie with his aerial prowess and strong hold-up play.

Wordsworth did claim two trophies though - the Players' Player of the Year award and the Goal of the Season trophy, for his wonder strike in Colchester's 2-0 victory at Charlton Athletic, last month.

Defender Tom Eastman scooped the U's Young Player of the Year accolade and also won the Colchester United Supporters Association (CUSA) away player of the year trophy.

U's skipper Kem Izzet, whose testimonial takes place on May 12, was awarded the Community Player of the Year and the CUSA main award.
