Kem Izzet insists he is looking forward not back ahead of his milestone appearance for Colchester United.

The long-serving midfielder is set to clock up his 400th league game for the U’s when they take on Preston North End tomorrow.

Izzet, currently in his testimonial year, is now seventh in the club’s leading appearance-makers list.

But the U’s skipper said he is only looking ahead and hopes he has plenty more years of action to come.

Izzet said: “It would be great to make my 400th league appearance but when it happens, it happens.

“It’s something that I’m not too concerned with at the minute - I just want to play and win games.

“It’s easy to look back but I try not to do that, because that’s been and gone.

“The more you dwell on the past, the more it can be a hindrance on you.

“Don’t get me wrong, you can learn from what you’ve done but I’m one to look forward rather than back.

“When you first start out, you don’t think about making 400 appearances or anything like that.

“You just want to play first-team football and play as well as you can.

“But I’ve been here for ten years now and racked up a few games and it’s been a real privilege.

“I’m 31 and I still have a lot of years left hopefully.”
