Colchester United are keen to extend winger Michail Antonio’s loan spell for a third and final month.

The 21-year-old has made a big impact for the U’s since joining them on loan from Reading, six weeks ago.

Antonio capped a fine man-of-the-match performance by scoring Colchester’s winning goal in their 1-0 triumph at Chesterfield, last weekend.

The pacy youngster still has two matches remaining of his current loan spell, at the Weston Homes Community Stadium.

But U’s boss John Ward said that when the present agreement expires, he is likely to try and persuade Royals boss Brian McDermott to part with Antonio’s services for a further four weeks.

Ward said: “I’ve got Michail for another couple of games and there’s a third month option, if Reading agree to it.

“I think Michail would be happy (to stay for another month) but it depends on whether Brian (McDermott) wants him back.

“That’s out of my hands but we have a chance to keep him for another month and that’s something we’d be interested in."
